Gamo Bone Collector Review

In my opinion the Gamo Bone Collector Bull Whisper is everything a great hunting air rifle should be and more. It has plenty of power, accuracy, and is even quiet as well. Besides just functioning great, this pellet gun has a very intimidating look to it that makes it a must have for any serious “collector”. With all jokes aside let’s talk about the great features that makes this air rifle so amazing.

Inert Gas Technology

IGT - Inert Gas Technology

While most air rifles are your typical metal spring model, the Bone Collector is powered by an IGT (Inert Gas Technology) gas piston. This makes the air rifle much more effective for hunting purposes because you don’t have to worry about spring fatigue if you leave it cocked back for hours.

Benefits of IGT:

  • Longer lifespan than metal springs
  • Smoother cocking
  • Smoother shooting
  • Works great in cold weather
  • No spring torque
  • No spring fatigue
  • Less vibration

Bull Whisper Noise Dampener

Part of what makes this pellet gun look extremely intimidating is because it has what appears to be a silencer on the end of the barrel. This is actually the Bull Whisper noise dampener covering a rifled steel barrel with fluted polymer jacket.

If you read many reviews on the Bone Collector you will see complaints that this air rifle isn’t that quiet. The problem is that they didn’t have the right type of pellet so what they heard was the sound barrier being broke from the pellet going supersonic. To avoid this trying using a heavier lead pellet instead of an allow one and the shot will be much quieter.

Smooth Action Trigger

SAT - Smooth action trigger

Previous Gamo models have been known to have problems with their triggers to where it was recommended to replace or modify it as soon as you could. Fortunately for us that’s not the case here since the trigger works exceptionally well with this model.

By utilizing a 2-stage adjustable trigger design and having such a smooth pull you will get extremely tight groupings which is great for both hunting and plinking. At a range of 20 yards I actually managed to get a nickel sized grouping which is pretty impressive.

Bonus Features

The second you take the Bone Collector out of the box you will notice that this airgun is extremely comfortable to hold. Everything from the ambidextrous dual raised cheek pads, to the Shock Wave Absorber recoil pad, to the textured grip on the pistol grip and forearm makes it feel perfect in your hands. The Shock Wave Absorber recoil pad also helps by absorbing up to 74% more recoil which aids with accuracy and shooting for long periods of time. Being so lightweight at just under 6 lbs. makes it easy to hold for long periods of time as well

Now what I don’t necessarily like about this air rifle is the 4 x 32 scope and mount that comes included with it. The scope is just rather cheap and the mount doesn’t hold it down well enough which can greatly hinder accuracy. I would recommend to get a replacement scope and mount but this is completely up to you.

Should You Buy It?

When looking to buy a new air rifle for hunting I always pay attention to these main three factors – power, noise, and accuracy. Before you decide if this is the right air rifle for you, let me quickly go over these three areas.

If you take a look at the box it says that this pellet rifle can shoot at a maximum velocity of 1300 fps. Personally I would have to disagree and put the mark right around the 1200 range, at least from my personal testing. This is still extremely powerful though and still plenty enough for most small game.

As far as noise is concerned, with the Bull Whisper noise dampener you will have a much lower noise decibel reading compared to most other models. This is great for hunting purposes in the case you do somehow happen to miss you will be given the chance to take another shot. Just make sure to only use heavy lead pellets as the alloy kind will make too much noise going supersonic.

What really impressed me personally was the accuracy of this air rifle, many other Gamo Bone Collector reviews would agree with me as well. Even at longer ranges I still managed to get tight groupings and surprise others that were using more expensive airguns. I do recommend buying another scope and mount though as the one included didn’t quite cut it for me. If you are just looking to have fun though then maybe this won’t be such a big deal for you.

On top of excelling in those three features, this air rifle is also comfortable to hold, lightweight, and just looks plain cool. Other than the scope I really have no complaints at all and would surely recommend it to anyone who wants to spend under the $200 dollar price range. Whether you want this pellet gun for hunting or simply plinking in the backyard, I’m sure you will have fun with the Bone Collector.
